U.S. Department of State Foreign Service Fellowships
The U.S. Department of State Foreign Service Fellowships are looking for diverse, culturally aware, adaptable, well-rounded and strategic problem-solvers, who are seeking a substantive fellowship. As a U.S. citizen, this is your chance to support and gain insight into U.S. foreign policy and diplomacy, and acquire lifelong skills, as you represent America to the world in your new career.
Each fellowship Program has its own requirements regarding professional experience and education credentials. Each fellowship vacancy announcement also has more specific requirements particular to each position. Some may also require foreign language fluency.
As of September 2024, programs include:
- Thomas R. Pickering Foreign Affairs Graduate Fellowship Program – The Thomas R. Pickering Foreign Affairs Graduate Fellowship is one of two flagship programs for attracting diverse, graduate students into the Foreign Service to make it more inclusive and representative of our nation’s richness and diversity.
- Charles B. Rangel International Affairs Program – The Charles B. Rangel International Affairs Program is one of two flagship programs for attracting diverse, undergraduate and graduate students into the Foreign Service to make it more inclusive and representative of our nation’s richness and diversity.
- Foreign Affairs Information Technology Fellowship (FAIT) – The Foreign Affairs IT Fellowships attracts outstanding students who reflect the diversity of America and are interested in pursuing careers applying their technology skills in support of the business of diplomacy as Diplomatic Technology Officers.
- William D. Clarke, Sr. Diplomatic Security (Clarke DS) Fellowship – The William D. Clarke, Sr. Diplomatic Security (Clarke DS) Fellowship is a path to an exciting and fulfilling career in the Foreign Service as a Diplomatic Security Service Special Agent. The program is a two-year graduate fellowship designed for individuals who want to pursue a master’s degree and a career as a Diplomatic Security Service Special Agent in the Foreign Service.
