The Office of Civic Engagement is pleased to announce that three civic-focused courses will again be available online in Summer 2025. The Civic & Community Engagement FAST PASS is one cluster of the new FAST PASS program set up by UC Irvine Summer Session. The program is designed to help students get ahead in their major, explore changing majors, or access courses that are impacted during the academic year.

Our Civic & Community Engagement FAST PASS offers three online courses and is tailored for students who are in the CCE Minor or want to explore the topics of civic engagement and leadership.

  • Introduction to Civic & Community Engagement and Community Research with Dr. Robin Hayes – Dive into the intricacies of community involvement with a focus on addressing global poverty and inequality. This course helps you build an understanding of the relationship between service learning and engaged citizenship. Uni Stu 10 offered Session I.
  • Leading from Within with Dr. Sean Nemeth – Learn from Dr. Sean Nemeth and examine the characteristics and behaviors of effective leaders, beginning from within. Sean’s practical, insightful teachings will equip you with the tools to lead effectively in any setting. Uni Stu 85A offered Session I.
  • Leading Others with Dr. Sean Nemeth – Continue your leadership journey with Dr. Sean Nemeth, an innovative leader in higher education focused on student success. Sean’s expertise will help you explore complex leadership challenges when working with others and innovative solutions that make a real impact. Uni Stu 85B offered Session II.

Students are welcome to enroll in any or all of the Civic & Community Engagement FAST PASS courses, including the Leadership Series. Classes are scheduled online with flexible meeting times to maximize students’ summer learning experience and allow you time to enjoy the summer while advancing educational goals. Plus you can take advantage of Summer Session’s Pay-for-8 program!
